Community Commitment

Holland & Knight attorneys and staff believe the time-honored traditions of civic, charitable and pro bono service have a central role in the modern day practice of law. Though our outreach efforts vary among our office locations throughout the world, we are united in our common goal to improve our communities for all.

As active members of our bar associations, we have many opportunities to leverage the resources of our firm with other law firms in community service. From cultural events to public education programs, our attorneys share their talents and resources to improve the quality of life in communities where we work and live.

We also serve as members of governmental bodies, and in leadership roles in non-profit organizations, economic development groups, higher education institutions and numerous civic initiatives.

Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation

Charitable giving is managed and coordinated by the Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation, which was established as a 501(c)(3) public charity in 1996. Funded through contributions from the firm, our attorneys and staff, as well as external sources, the foundation underwrites several important programs that support education.

Staffed by volunteers, our Opening Doors for Children program serves as a mentoring and tutoring program for thousands of children and schools across America. We also proudly support several essay contests for high school students:

    • The Holocaust Remembrance Project is a national essay contest for high school students to promote the study of the Holocaust. This annual contest culminates with scholarships to winning students and a trip to Washington D.C.
    • The Young Native Writers Essay Contest is a writing contest for Native American high school students and is designed to inspire honest portrayals of the richness of Native American life and history.

Aside from these programs, we are active in numerous causes that touch our communities, including disaster relief programs, funding for medical research such as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.
