Mentoring

Very few lawyers make it to the top without help. Recognizing this, Holland & Knight promotes an environment of mentoring and support. Our lawyers consistently give us outstanding marks for our mentoring program and provide us with annual feedback on how we can make the program even better.

A Partner in each Holland & Knight office serves as the Mentor Coordinator to oversee the program and assign a partner mentor to each new lawyer. In addition to your primary partner mentor, we also provide you with access to peer, affinity and career mentors. Your mentors are available to, among other things: 

  • Connect you to colleagues;
  • Support you in creating and reaching goals outlined in your Associate Development Plan;
  • Provide candid advice about work assignments and career decisions;
  • Teach substantive and practical legal skills through direct experience and shadowing opportunities;
  • Participate in your annual performance evaluation;
  • Help you to understand and build on performance feedback from others;
  • Open doors to new work, clients, and leadership opportunities;
  • Help you to build your reputation internally and externally; and
  • Explain the unwritten rules.
