2009

Holland & Knight Rankings

  • 221 lawyers in 50 different practice areas were named The Best Lawyers in America® for the 2010 guide. The firm leads the nation with the most attorneys listed in the categories of Bet-the-Company Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Equipment Finance Law, Land Use & Zoning and Trusts and Estates (August 2009).

  • 49 of the firm's partners were named to Florida Trend magazine's 2009 Legal Elite list (June 2009).

  • Holland & Knight is ranked among the nation's top 40 law firms for the delivery of superior client service and satisfaction, according to BTI Consulting Group's annual survey of more than 250 corporate counsel at Fortune 1000 organizations. This was the seventh year that Holland & Knight has been named to the BTI Client Relationship 100 list (June 2009).

  • Ranked 2nd in the Minority Law Journal magazine's 2009 Diversity Scorecard for the number of minority partners and 2nd for the number of Hispanic attorneys (May 2009).

2008

Holland & Knight Rankings

  • Holland & Knight had two partners named to the annual "Top 100 Lawyers in California" list published by the Los Angeles and San Francisco editions of the Daily Journal, the largest daily legal publication in the state. The Daily Journal said they selected attorneys who "through their work... are shaping our future: what kind of air we will breathe, how we will settle our disputes, how this business of law will operate." (September 2008)

  • Minority Law Journal ranked Holland & Knight #2 in their 2008 Diversity Scorecard for the number of minority partners, and #3 for the number of Hispanic attorneys. (Summer 2008)

  • In the 2008 edition of the Chambers USA – America's Leading Business Lawyers guide released in June, 96 Holland & Knight attorneys were named among the nation's leading practitioners. Holland & Knight also received a No. 1 ranking nationally in Food & Beverages: Alcohol; Native American Law; Transportation: Aviation Litigation; Transportation: Aviation Regulatory; and Transportation: Shipping Litigation. Regionally, the firm received a No. 1 ranking in: Construction (Florida); Corporate/ Mergers & Acquisitions (Florida); Media and Entertainment: Transactional (Illinois); Real Estate (District of Columbia); Real Estate: Zoning/Land Use (Florida); and Tax (Florida).

  • Holland & Knight had 76 of the firm's Florida lawyers named Florida Super Lawyers for 2008 by Super Lawyers magazine in their June issue. Super Lawyers magazine names Florida's top lawyers as chosen by their peers and through the independent research of Law & Politic magazine. Five percent of the lawyers in Florida are named Super Lawyers.

  • American Lawyer’s Am Law 100 report ranked Holland & Knight #41 based on 2007 gross revenues of 100 top law firms. (May 2008)

  • Holland & Knight has been named “Best Law Firm” by the Greater Washington Commercial Association of Realtors (GWCAR). This is the first year GWCAR bestowed this particular award, and Holland & Knight was selected from more than 20 D.C.-area law firms nominated. (April 2008)

  • BTI Consulting Group has ranked Holland & Knight as one of the Top 30 law firms in the nation for delivery of superior client service in the Survey of Client Service Performance for Law Firms 2008. This is the sixth year that Holland & Knight has been named to BTI's list of Top 30 law firms for client service – a distinction held by just four other firms.

  • The January 2008 issue of James magazine, the premier Georgia news and political monthly, has ranked Holland & Knight #8 on its list of Georgia's Top Lobbyists and Large Governmental Affairs Firms.

2007

Holland & Knight Rankings

  • In 2007, Holland & Knight ranked 18th largest law firm in the U.S. according to the National Law Journal’s NLJ 250 report, an annual survey of the nation's 250 largest law firms. (November 2007)

  • In September 2007, the U.S. Business Leadership Network (USBLN), the only national disability organization led by businesses for businesses, named Holland & Knight its Employer of the Year for 2007, for “…its history and practice of employing persons with disabilities.”

  • The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the educational arm of the nation’s largest advocacy group for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans, assigned Holland & Knight a “100,” or “perfectrating on its 2008 Corporate Equality Index and Best Places to Work Survey released in September 2007.

  • In September 2007, 198 lawyers representing 49 different practice areas were named by their peers to the 2008 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. The firm leads the nation with the most attorneys listed in the categories of Bet-the-Company Litigation, Land Use & Zoning, Maritime Law and Trusts and Estates.

  • Working Mother magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers LLC, named Holland & Knight a 2007 Working Mother & Flex-Time Lawyers Best Law Firm for Women. Holland & Knight is one of 50 law firms honored for creating a work environment that is hospitable to and encouraging of the advancement of women. (August/September 2007)

  • Holland & Knight had four lawyers in the firm's Virginia office named Virginia Super Lawyers for 2007. Super Lawyers is a comprehensive and diverse guide to outstanding attorneys, representing a wide range of practice areas, firm sizes and geographic locations. Five percent of the lawyers in Virginia are named Super Lawyers. (July 2007)

  • Florida Trend magazine named 59 of the firm's attorneys 2007 Florida Legal Elite. Holland & Knight has more Florida Legal Elite lawyers than any other law firm. In addition, 15 lawyers were recognized as "Up and Comers" in the legal profession. Holland & Knight's Managing Partner, Howell W. Melton, Jr., also was recognized as a Top Managing Partner. The Florida Legal Elite are the top lawyers practicing in Florida, according to the results of the magazine's statewide attorney surveys. The list is published in the July issue of Florida Trend.

  • In June 2007, Chambers and Partners announced that 90 Holland & Knight attorneys have been recognized among the nation's leading practitioners in the 2007 edition of Chambers USA – America's Leading Business Lawyers.

  • American Lawyer’s Am Law 100 report ranked Holland & Knight #32 based on 2006 gross revenues of 100 top law firms. (May 2007)

  • BTI Consulting Group has ranked Holland & Knight #3 in the nation for delivery of superior client service in the Survey of Client Service Performance for Law Firms 2007. Contributing to Holland & Knight's ranking was the firm's rating in advising clients on business issues and its commitment to helping clients. This is the fifth year that Holland & Knight has been named to BTI's list of Top 30 law firms for client service – a distinction held by just four other firms.

  • The January 2007 issue of James Magazine, the premier Georgia news and political monthly, has ranked Holland & Knight among the top 10 lobbying firms in Georgia for the second year in a row.

  • Holland & Knight's Real Estate Section was ranked #8 in the nation in the 2007 Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms. Associates from more than 150 law firms across the country were surveyed for this guide and asked to rank their peer law firms based on prestige.

Holland & Knight Awards

  • Holland & Knight received the 2007 CREW Network Impact Award for the category of Industry Innovator for the firm's Rising Stars program. This award recognizes an organization that fosters a culture of innovation, dedication to diversity and the equal advancement of women and men in commercial real estate.

  • Public Counsel, the largest pro bono organization in the world, awarded Holland & Knight its prestigious 2007 Law Firm Pro Bono Award. This award is presented annually to a law firm or corporate legal department for leadership and advocacy on behalf of those who are indigent, vulnerable and victimized.

  • In 2006, Holland & Knight ranked 14th largest law firm in the U.S. according to the National Law Journal’s NLJ 250 report, an annual survey of the nation's 250 largest law firms. (November 2006)

  • In September 2006, Best Lawyers announced that 188 Holland & Knight lawyers practicing in 49 different practice areas have been named The Best Lawyers in America® 2007. Best Lawyers also announced that Holland & Knight has the most lawyers listed in the U.S. and Florida. In addition, the firm has the most lawyers listed in Commercial Litigation, Equipment Finance Law, Gaming Law, Land Use and Zoning Law, Maritime Law, Native American Law and Trusts and Estates in the U.S.

  • Minority Law Journal ranked Holland & Knight #2 in their 2006 Diversity Scorecard for the number of minority partners and African-American and Hispanic lawyers. (Summer 2006)

  • Florida Trend named 52 Holland & Knight attorneys to it’s 2006 Florida Legal Elite and recognized Managing Partner, Howell W. Melton, Jr. as a Top Managing Partner in the July 2006 issue of Florida Trend. In addition, the firm had seven attorneys recognized as “Up and Comers” in the legal field. The results are based on the magazine’s statewide attorney surveys.

  • In June 2006, Chambers and Partners announced that Holland & Knight had 74 lawyers named as Chambers USA - America’s Leading Business Lawyers 2006.

  • Holland & Knight had six attorneys from the firm’s McLean, Virginia office named Virginia Super Lawyers for 2006, the inaugural year for the ranking in the state. Super Lawyers names Virginia's top lawyers as chosen by their peers and through the independent research of Law & Politics magazine.

  • Holland & Knight had 11 attorneys from the firm’s Atlanta office selected as Georgia Super Lawyers for 2006. They were chosen from a survey conducted by Law & Politics Magazine and will be listed in the March issues of Atlanta magazine and Georgia Super Lawyers.

  • American Lawyer’s Am Law 100 report ranked Holland & Knight #28 based on 2005 gross revenues of 100 top law firms. (May 2006)

  • According to the March 21 issue of Influence, one of the leading publications providing news of the business of lobbying, Holland & Knight was ranked 8th in The Influence 50, which reports overall rankings of both law firms and lobby shops based on revenues in 2005.

  • Holland & Knight’s lobbying practice was ranked among the top lobbying firms in the U.S. by several lobbying industry publications for its activities in 2005. In the February 16 issue of Roll Call, Holland & Knight was ranked 13th on its list of the 25 top grossing federal lobbying firms. The Washington Business Journal ranked the firm 11th among the top 25 Washington, D.C. lobbying firms based on total revenues reported for 2005. The National Journal ranked the firm 13th based on total revenues reported for the period from July 1 – December 31, 2005.

  • Holland & Knight had 22 attorneys from the Chicago office listed as Illinois Super Lawyers for 2006 and appeared in the February 2006 issues of Super Lawyers magazine and Chicago Magazine. The lawyers were chosen from a survey conducted by Law & Politics Magazine.

  • Chambers and Partners announced that Holland & Knight has 11 lawyers recognized as “leaders in their field” for the 2005-2006 edition of Chambers Global and ranked Holland & Knight #1 (tied) in Shipping.

  • MultiCultural Law magazine ranked Holland & Knight as one of the 2006 Top 100 Law Firms for Diversity in its Summer/Fall 2006 issue. The firm ranked 61 out of the top 100 firms. Out of the top 50 law firms, Holland & Knight ranked #15 for Associates and #47 for Partners. In addition, Holland & Knight ranked #1 for Native Americans, #12 for Hispanic Americans, #23 for Openly Gay/Lesbian Americans, and #24 for African Americans in the top 25 law firms.

  • Recognized for superior client service by being named to BTI Consulting Group’s “Client Service A Team”  a select group of 30 firms BTI identified through client satisfaction surveys. (2006)

Holland & Knight Awards

  • The American Bar Association Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities awarded its second Pro Bono Service Award to Holland & Knight during their annual conference. The firm was recognized for its leadership in the legal profession with supporting the section's mission of securing and protecting human rights, civil liberties and social justice by providing countless hours of legal service. (Summer 2006)

  • Corporate Pro Bono presented Holland & Knight with its 2006 Pro Bono Partner Award in recognition or the firm's participation in Volunteer Advocates for Immigrant Justice (VAIJ), which coordinates pro bono legal assistance for detained indigent immigrants and asylum seekers, and represents detained unaccompanied immigrant children in removal proceedings, alongside the Microsoft Corporation and five other law firms.
