Katharine Davidson will speak on a panel titled
"New Expatriation Rules" at the Taxation Section of the State Bar of
California's Annual Meeting of the California Tax Bar & California Tax Policy
Conference.
The panel will include a discussion of the Heroes Earnings
Assistance and Relief Tax Act of 2008, which was passed by Congress and signed
into law in June 2008. The statute now treats high-net-worth U.S. citizens and
long-term U.S. residents who expatriate as if they sold all of their property
for fair market value on the day before expatriation or termination of
residency.
