Education Team Members Paul Lannon and Daniel Small will speak at the National Association of College and University Attorneys' 2013 Annual Conference.
Mr. Lannon will moderate the panel titled "Your Annual Employment Law Roundup: News You Can Use!" Topics for this panel will include:
- whistleblower and retaliation decisions, including (hopefully) the Supreme Court's decision in Vance v. Ball State
- NLRB activity with respect to faculty and graduate student organizing, employee speech restrictions, and more
- changes to drafting effective releases and arbitration clauses
- liability for discrimination and harassment in the workplace
- disability accommodations for faculty and staff
- EEOC background check requirements
- wage and hour lessons from 2012
Mr. Small will speak on the panel titled "Outside Investigations: When to Recommend Them and How to Survive Them. Topics for this panel will include:
- recognizing when only an outside independent investigation will do
- role of the general counsel in outside investigations
- monitoring and managing outside investigations
- ethical issues
- after the investigation
