Lawyer Succession Planning: Best Practices, Pitfalls and Risk Management

Legal ethics attorney Trisha Rich will participate in the International Association of Defense Counsel's (IADC) 2024 Professional Liability Roundtable held in Chicago. The event aims to create a space where in-house counsel, outside counsel and insurance claims representatives can come together to learn about and discuss new developments in the professional liability area. Ms. Rich's session will examine the critical — and often overlooked — issue of lawyer succession planning. Every lawyer will stop practicing at some point, and developing and implementing a transition plan is crucial for protecting colleagues and clients. Alongside other panelists, Ms. Rich will review ethics, liability and risk management issues that arise during succession planning, including a look at practical examples and analysis of the heightened role of state bar associations and regulators.
