Maritime attorney Sean Pribyl will join a panel titled "Ethics & Professionalism: Smooth Sailing – How to Navigate Choppy Waters and Avoid Ethical Issues When Engaging with Government Counsel" at the American Bar Association (ABA) Admiralty Disruption Conference. This panel will focus on the uniqueness of maritime law and admiralty procedures which give rise to equally unique ethical and professionalism issues for lawyers and parties. Panelists will address what is required of the modern maritime practitioner to meet ethical obligations when involved with government lawyers in the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy and the Federal Maritime Commission. They will offer additional insight into the importance of government counsel to comply with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), as such records are commonly the subject of FOIA requests following major marine casualty investigations. The panel will also cover the steps that outside counsel can take to prevent an agency from inadvertently releasing a client's confidential commercial or financial information to the public.
