Race, Health, and Equity: A Discussion with Dr. K. Torian Easterling
In honor of Black History Month, the firm's Black Affinity Group hosted a discussion with Dr. K. Torian Easterling, a physician and public health leader, who serves as First Deputy Commissioner and Chief Equity Officer of the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene. Dr. Easterling, who was promoted to Chief Equity Officer in the early stages of the pandemic and wake of George Floyd's murder, discussed a primary focus of his work, which is to apply a racial equity lens to health care and public health both locally and globally. Dr. Easterling also discussed disparities in healthcare and the continued impact of COVID-19 on the physical and mental health of communities of color, with particular focus on the Black Community, as well as our communities as a whole.
