1 Percent Tax for the Coal Industry
Mining attorney Estefanny Pardo presented a radio program in partnership with La Voz Minera EMG titled "Minería al Día con Estefanny Pardo." In this episode, Ms. Pardo analyzes Decree 175 of 2025, which imposes a 1 percent tax on the first sale and export of hydrocarbons and coal in Colombia. This tax, applicable to specific tariff categories, aims to raise funds for addressing emergencies in the Catatumbo region. Ms. Pardo questions the extension of the tax beyond the duration of the state of emergency as well as highlights the risks of double taxation and its implications for the mining industry.
