Church Autonomy after the Scandal

The sexual misconduct scandals in the Catholic church through the past decade have met with consequences impacting all religious institutions. The Church Autonomy Doctrine, which barred many tort claims against religious institutions, has rapidly withdrawn in the wake of the church scandals. As a result, adopting sound risk avoidance policies and practices pertaining to employees and counselors is more important than ever.
