Preparing for the Cybersecurity Challenges of 2014
The number and extent of data breaches against commercial entities in just the last two years have prompted a nationwide review of cyber threats, primarily to so-called “critical infrastructures.” Also, the Securities and Exchange Commission has issued guidelines for publicly traded companies that emphasize disclosures of potential cyber exposures and steps taken to protect against such risks, including a description of relevant insurance coverage. Many companies have already purchased cyber-protection insurance. But even if you do not think your company needs this type of insurance coverage, you may well be asked by your customers, clients, or business partners to answer the same questions that an insurer will ask.
