U.S. General License for IP Protection in North Korea

On March 16, 2016, the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control issued a general license allowing U.S. companies to protect their intellectual property rights in North Korea (the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea). Previously, U.S. brand owners could more easily protect their rights in other nations subject to trade restrictions, controls, or sanctions, such as Cuba, Syria and Iran, than in North Korea.
