Hillman on Lawyer Mobility: The Law and Ethics of Partner Withdrawals and Law Firm Breakups

Barbra R. Parlin | Richard A. Bixter Jr.

Partner Allison Martin Rhodes and Professor Robert Hillman of University of California Davis School of Law have released the third edition of their treatise, Hillman on Lawyer Mobility: The Law and Ethics of Partner Withdrawals and Law Firm Breakups. The publication serves as the definitive guide to understanding the ethical, practical and financial questions that arise when lawyers transition from private practice and firms restructure.

The latest edition also includes three new chapters, authored primarily by Holland & Knight attorneys, that focus on the law firm as an entity. Two new chapters authored by Allison Martin Rhodes examine law firm combinations and mergers, as well as managing the integration of lateral hires. In addition, a new chapter by Partner Barbra Parlin, with contributions by Associate Richard Bixter, discusses the legal particulars involved in the winding up of law firms and how the U.S. Bankruptcy Code treats firms as debtors.
