ARDC's Annual Report Sheds Light on Illinois Legal Industry

Legal ethics attorney Trisha Rich published an article in the CBA Record recapping highlights from the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission's (ARDC) 2021 Annual Report. The report offers information about the legal industry in Illinois, from demographics like how many lawyers are registered in the state and where they practice to what types of disciplinary issues the ARDC has handled the most and what practice areas draw the most complaints. Ms. Rich notes one statistic in particular - only 37 percent of lawyers have a succession plan - and explains why it's important for attorneys to develop a transition plan to protect clients, firms and themselves. Her article goes on to point out other highlights from the report and analyze their significance.
