Texas Joins the Privacy Rodeo with New Consumer Data Privacy Law and Social Media Law
Data Strategy, Security and Privacy attorneys Bart Huffman and Haylie Treas co-authored an article for OneTrust DataGuidance's Data Protection Leader Magazine analyzing two newly enacted privacy laws in Texas. The Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (TDPSA) aims to increase transparency surrounding what personal data companies collect from consumers and how they use it, and the Securing the Children Online through Parental Empowerment (SCOPE) Act imposes safety planning obligations on certain social media providers as well as gives parents and guardians the right to exercise oversight to protect young users. This article outlines who is covered by the new laws, what obligations they impose, how they will be enforced and how companies can prepare to come into compliance with them.
