Opinion: Despite Noble Intentions, California's Environmental Law Is Hurting Latinos
West Coast Land Use and Environmental Group Leader Jennifer Hernandez co-wrote an article published in the Los Angeles Times discussing the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and how it impacts the state's Latino population. Ms. Hernandez notes Latinos already face income, homeownership and education disparities in California, and asserts CEQA adds another obstacle to affordable housing because it limits development as a result of added regulatory environmental mandates and fees. Ms. Hernandez also explains how the once well-intentioned environmental law needs reform so more people can become homeowners.
