Lawyers should take five crucial steps to prepare and plan for a client facing an environmental disaster. Litigation attorney Debby Barnard says one of the most important things to have in place is a robust compliance plan.
"Before the disaster happens, you always want to make sure you're in compliance. You want a compliance plan and you want to make sure that you're regularly checking it," Ms. Barnard said. "Preventing a disaster is always a whole lot better than trying to deal with the aftermath."
