It is likely that the bidding for the Chicago Sun-Times will come to an end this month because of the Justice Department supporting the one contender that isn't a rival of the paper. The Justice Department's disdain for newspaper mergers remains and the department is aware of the competition between newspapers to acquire advertisers.
"No one (at Justice) has their head in the sand, and isn't aware of the alternatives that are out there," said Antitrust attorney David Kully.
