Florida Legislation to Watch in 2023
Senior Policy Advisor Beth Vecchioli was quoted in a Law360 article discussing the top Florida legislation to watch in 2023. In the article, Ms. Vecchioli weighs in on two Senate bills (SB 2-A and SB 4-A) recently signed into law by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis designed to provide relief to homeowners and Florida's property insurance market. According to Ms. Vecchioli, the legislation comes after several insurer insolvencies in the past year and rising premiums as a result of fraud and a litigious environment. She added that its effects remain to be seen.
"For years, the insurance industry has been saying litigation is killing them...It has been a cost-driver in our system for years and one of the factors driving up homeowners' rates, making insurance unaffordable," Ms. Vecchioli commented.
