Democrats' Clean-Energy Tax Credits Are Popular — and Expensive
Tax attorney Nicole Elliott spoke with The Washington Post for an article about the clean energy tax credits enacted through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Recently, the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation released a preliminary estimate of the cost of the credits, which has led to some backlash from lawmakers calling to repeal them. Ms. Elliott commented that as more money flows into states and districts — and more projects get up and running — it will be become more difficult to pass any type of repeal.
"I see a great parallel between this and the Affordable Care Act," she said. "Discussions of repeal happened for years afterward, but once so many Americans had their health insurance, full repeal was really hard to do."
