ABC of How Firms Advise Their Clients with the Reduction of an Hour of Work

Labor attorney Camilo Cuervo was cited in an Asuntos Legales article in which he explains how he is advising clients after the reduction of a work hour in Colombia. Law 2101 of 2021 stipulates the gradual reduction of the work week from 48 to 42 hours in the upcoming years, and the first reduction took effect this past July 15, 2023. Mr. Cuervo commented that the firm seeks to make clear the coordination in terms of time, movement and cost.

"In last few days we are putting special emphasis on the circumstance not detected in a principle about the increase in the value of the ordinary hour for purposes of the calculation of other charges. In the event that the work week is reduced, but the basic weekly salary is maintained, the logical consecuence is that the valor of the hour goes down for purposes of calculating other charges," he said.
