Kentucky ‘Considered’ Taxing Sports Betting Handle Like TN

Public Policy & Regulation attorney Catie Lane Bailey recently spoke to Play Kentucky about whether or not she believes Kentucky will enact a handle tax on online sports betting, as neighboring state Tennessee has. Although Kentucky, among other states, has considered a handle tax and declined to enact it, Ms. Bailey does not believe the possibility of one being created is entirely off the table.

“If regulators in other states see that [Tennessee’s] model is successful, it could serve as a template for other states to adopt in the future,” she told Play Kentucky.
