How Florida Law Firms Ranked in The American Lawyer's 2023 Summer Associate Satisfaction Survey

Daily Business Review

Miami Partner Eduardo Ramos was interviewed by the Daily Business Review about the growth of Holland & Knight's summer associate program. The American Lawyer recently released the results of its summer associate satisfaction survey, and the firm ranked first in the region for the fourth year in a row, in addition to being the only Florida-based Am Law firm to be included in the top 100 overall. Mr. Ramos, who serves as a hiring partner, explained that the Miami office received more than 460 applications last year, leading to the largest summer associate class in more than 40 years. He stressed the importance of investing in lawyers at the beginning of their careers to help set up the firm for future success.

"I'm hoping to retire one day, so I want to make sure that the firm is in a good position to be able to continue with not only top talent, but people who actually care about the firm and are invested in its culture and the success," he said.

Mr. Ramos also commented on the growth of the legal industry in South Florida, saying it's making the market more competitive but also creating a larger pool from which to draw talent.

"A lot of the sophisticated work that sometimes was just kind of relegated to the New York market, in my opinion, you're seeing that down here," he said. "What that has done is that it has really brought in a lot of talent ... You're getting a lot more competition. You're getting a lot more people that are looking to start their careers in Miami, so ... we are seeing a lot more talent coming our way."
