Lawyers on the Fast Track 2023: Ashley Shively
Privacy attorney Ashley Shively was profiled by The Recorder for her recognition as a Lawyer on the Fast Track for 2023. She talked about her path to Holland & Knight, explaining that she graduated law school during the global financial crisis in 2009 and spent the first part of her career representing lenders being sued by homeowners over their mortgages. She commented that this experience was a valuable opportunity for a junior litigator and ultimately led her to join a group of other attorneys with whom she eventually formed the Data Strategy, Security and Privacy practice group at the firm. She also described recent significant matters, including successfully defending a nonprofit organization in federal court against a class action lawsuit pertaining to sharing protected consumer data. She also talked about how she helps clients as a privacy lawyer.
"One of the most interesting aspects of my job is that these laws are not written in a way that considers how companies should implement them — instead, they tell businesses what the end result should be," she said. "I help clients translate laws into business practices and operationalize legal requirements in this ever-evolving area of law."
