Electronic Receipts Can Be Used to Obtain Benefits in Tax Returns
Tax attorney Rafael Lafont was interviewed by El Tiempo about a new tax deduction established by the 2022 tax reform in Colombia related to the use of electronic receipts. According to the country's National Directorate of Taxes and Customs (DIAN), this measure "incentivizes citizens" to ask for electronic receipts when doing business, strengthening the DIAN's efforts to implement the system as a model for the rest of Latin America. Mr. Lafont explained that to obtain this discount, it is necessary to keep copies of the receipts, and he noted that tax regulations designate as beneficiaries the taxpayers, including natural persons.
"The natural persons that acquire goods or services should keep an electronic or physical copy of said receipts, the copies being ideal for all of tax and accounting effects," he said.
