Baltimore Takes First Steps to Sue Owners of Dali

Maritime attorney Sean Pribyl was cited in a recent WYPR News article about the ongoing legal battle surrounding the Baltimore bridge collapse. Grace Ocean Private, the company that owns the ship that collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March 2024, filed a bid for limited liability in the incident, but the city of Baltimore is looking to get it thrown out. Mr. Pribyl provided important context about the Limitation of Liability Act of 1851 that, under certain circumstances, can allow ship owners to reduce their exposure. He said to prove that limited liability should not be granted to Grace Ocean Private, the city must show that the vessel was unseaworthy or that neglect was taking place.
