Holland & Knight Litigator Shares Lessons from 'Life on Trial'
Litigation attorney Dan Small was featured in a Law360 article examining his book "Lessons Learned from a Life on Trial." Mr. Small's book shares lessons from more than 40 years of experience, emphasizing "know your court," "tell your story" and "do the right thing." The book also offers numerous stories from Mr. Small's "Life on Trial," such as an early Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) case where his concept of "Juror No. 6" originated, as well as an instance when he persuaded an business partner living in Italy to testify against a corrupt official.
"I was incredibly fortunate to get thrown into the middle of some very high-profile and complex and challenging cases, which continued to deepen my love for trials, and it's been a lifetime love affair with trials," Mr. Small shared.
Mr. Small hopes readers take away that they "can do this" difficult work and feel empowered in their approach.
"Part of my hope for the book is that people can understand that you can do this," Mr. Small said. "I've made lots of mistakes. I've learned a lot and I've been very fortunate to be thrown into positions where I've been forced to learn a lot."
