Business of Sports: Private Equity in the NFL, Good or Bad?

Sports Industry Team Co-Chair Anthony Mulrain was interviewed by Bloomberg regarding the NFL's decision to allow private equity firms to invest in franchises. He highlighted the multifaceted benefits firms can offer teams, such as thought leadership and innovation that can open new revenue opportunities, including major roles in media, entertainment and real estate development. However, he cautioned that diversifying into these areas also introduces risks not present in traditional franchise operations.

"Many PE firms will contribute thought leadership and ingenuity to the franchises, the result of which could be new pathways to revenue," he said.
