2024 Elections: Professionals Dig into Industry Impact
Employment and litigation attorney Timothy Taylor, Tax attorney Nicole Elliott, and Public Policy & Regulation attorneys Dimitrios Karakitsos and Elizabeth Craddock were quoted in a Resource Recycling article recapping a webinar discussing the potential impacts of the 2024 elections on corporate taxes, worker protections and project permits. They indicated that regardless of the election outcomes, the industry should expect changes, even if the extent and nature of these changes remains uncertain. Mr. Karakitsos highlighted areas of possible bipartisan agreement, such as paid leave and permit process streamlining, while noting that recycling policy tends to become partisan despite overall bipartisan support.
Mr. Taylor predicted more activity from state and local governments, depending on what happens at the federal level.
"If we have a divided Congress, my guess is it's going to be hard to get much legislative activity done, so states are going to pick up on that," he said.
Ms. Elliott commented on the upcoming "tax Superbowl" and potential tax policies under a Harris or Trump Administration.
"We're going to be talking about taxes in 2025," she explained.
Adding to Mr. Karakitsos' analysis of potential areas of bipartisan agreement, Ms. Craddock noted that "both sides of the aisle would like to see permitting reform legislation pass" because of the problems permitting issues pose for renewable energy projects.
