Senate Finance Faces Upheaval on Democratic Side

Tax Notes

Tax attorney Joshua Odintz was quoted in a Tax Notes article examining how the vacancies in the Senate Finance Committee will impact the Democratic Party. The election will influence how the seats are filled based on which party wins the Senate and by what margin. This uncertainty comes after former Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey resigned last month, and Sens. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Thomas Carper (D-Del.) and Benjamin Cardin (D-Md.) announced their retirements.

“From the Democrats, they're losing some really senior members, at least on Senate Finance, that have got a very significant role in tax policy,” he said. “I don't know who is going to replace them, but we'll be sad to lose that bench and that depth of knowledge.”
