U.S. Elections Could Prompt Tax-Related Emigration
Private Wealth Services attorney Kevin Packman was quoted in a Tax Notes article where he shared observations from his professional experience about the unlikely possibility of mass emigrations because of the U.S. election outcomes. He mentioned receiving numerous inquiries from clients contemplating leaving the U.S. if certain candidates won, yet he noted that none of them actually followed through with expatriation. Mr. Packman's insights suggest that while political dissatisfaction may prompt discussions about leaving the country, such decisions are rarely executed based on election results alone.
"For as long as I can remember, each election cycle there are taxpayers saying they will leave the U.S. if 'so and so' wins. I field numerous such calls, and none of my clients who have expatriated ever did so as a result of an election," he said.
