Pentagon's Cybersecurity Mandate CMMC 2.0 Likely to Survive Under Trump
Government contracts and cybersecurity attorney Eric Crusius was quoted in a Breaking Defense article highlighting the likely continuance of Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) policies under a Trump Administration despite a general trend toward deregulation. Mr. Crusius noted that the Biden Administration had already made CMMC more business-friendly, which aligns with Donald Trump's platform and suggests a smooth pathway for maintaining the framework. He added that the incoming administration, which first implemented CMMC, will continue to focus on protecting national security interests such as the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) supply chain, even as regulatory efforts in other areas like environmental policy and labor and employment ebb.
"My sense is that based on the platform that the Trump Administration ran on, is that this will continue to stay in place," he said.
