Alcohol Warnings Unlikely to Bring Same Fate Tobacco Faced

Alcohol Beverage attorney Michael Newman was cited in a Law360 article discussing the U.S. surgeon general's recent recommendation to add cancer warning labels to alcohol products. Though any mention of the "C word," as he termed it, tends to raise concerns, many professionals believe adding an advisory would not affect the industry in the same way it did for tobacco products. Mr. Newman noted that California already has requirements for businesses to warn people of the risks of alcohol consumption. As for federal regulation, Congress would have to decide on requiring warning labels on products, and it is unclear whether that would happen under the Trump Administration.

"So there's nothing at all final about this," he explained.
