An Unsung Crisis: The Gas Deficit in Colombia That Gustavo Petro Refuses to Acknowledge
Energy & Natural Resources attorney Inés Elvira Vesga was cited in an article published by Cambio Colombia about gas prices in Colombia. She clarified that gas prices are determined by a regulated formula rather than being set freely by companies. She explained that rate increases are influenced by factors such as transportation and distribution costs, particularly when importing gas becomes necessary as a result of domestic supply shortages. Ms. Vesga additionally argued that governmental investigations distract from the core issue, which is the urgent need to increase the country's fuel supply.
"We are experiencing a shortage that has led to changes in the supply sources. If there is no gas available in the national market, we have to seek it abroad, which not only increases the cost of the gas itself but also the transportation costs," she said.
