Landlords, Judiciary Brace for Federal Leasing Slimdown

Law360
GSA Leasing & Federal Real Estate Team Leader Robert MacKichan Jr. was quoted in a Law360 article about the potential termination of federal leases, particularly judiciary leases, by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). The article discussed the broader implications of such terminations on landlords, lenders and the judicial workforce. Mr. MacKichan explained what actions the government is authorized to take when managing leases spaces, including its ability to swap tenants.

"The fact that the court controls the space doesn't supersede the U.S. government's owning the building that's overseen by GSA. There is a specific clause that allows the government to substitute a tenant, so if one agency vacates they can put another agency in there," he said.
