Companies in Colombia to Pay Social Security for Independent Contractors Starting in July: How Will It Work?

Labor attorney Camilo Cuervo was interviewed by Valora Analitik about the new measure that will require companies in Colombia to assume the payment of social security for independent contractors starting in July of 2025. This provision is part of the pension reform currently under review by the Constitutional Court. Mr. Cuervo explained that, if implemented, companies will need to withhold and rotate contributions for health and pension in the same manner they do for their salaried employees.

"Basically, it is a new withholding process that will ensure compliance with social security obligations," he said.
