Karen Walker Honored as Woman of Distinction by Girl Scout Council of the Florida Panhandle, Inc.
Tallahassee, FL (November 9, 2012) — Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that Karen Walker, executive partner of the firm's Tallahassee office, has been honored by the Girl Scout Council of the Florida Panhandle, Inc. as a 2012 Woman of Distinction.
The Women of Distinction honorees are emblematic of Girl Scout founder Juliette Gordon Low who encouraged girls to prepare not only for traditional homemaking, but also for possible future roles as professional women – in the arts, sciences and business – and for active citizenship outside the home.
Ms. Walker was selected in the category of "Law" and joined 15 other prominent women from the community in receiving honors at an awards gala and 100th anniversary celebration on November 1 at the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center.
“The 2012 Women of Distinction honorees are women who exemplify the mission of Girl Scouts,” stated Kelly O’Keefe, Girl Scouts of the Florida Panhandle Philanthropy Committee Chair. “Courage, confidence and character are qualities that aptly describe each of these women.”
A program inspired by Girl Scouts nationally, the Women of Distinction awards honor women who truly demonstrate their commitment to the community. Since its inception, 61 women throughout the Florida Panhandle have been recognized as Women of Distinction who exemplify the mission of Girl Scouts: building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.
