Overview
Shawn Amuial is a real estate attorney in Holland & Knight's Miami office.
Mr. Amuial focuses his practice on general real estate matters, including the representation of commercial developers in connection with the acquisition, disposition, joint venture negotiation, financing, development, construction, and leasing of multifamily, retail, industrial and office projects. Representative transactions include: 1) developer representation in the acquisition, development and joint venture negotiation of a more than $1 billion luxury mixed-use development in Miami-Dade County, 2) developer representation in the sale of a $240 million mixed-use development, 3) seller representation in the sale of a national convenience store chain, 4) lessor representation in the negotiation of a ground lease for a multi-acre, mixed-use development site, 5) developer representation in the negotiation of construction financing for a mixed-use, student housing development, 6) developer representation in ground lease, development and construction loan financing for a waterfront master-planned development, 7) investor representation in a $400 million joint venture for a mixed-use development, 8) developer representation in the acquisition, joint venture negotiation and development of a $500 million residential condominium development, 9) representation of developer in the assemblage acquisition, strategic development planning and financing in connection with a $700 million development of a mixed-use, master-planned urban community, 10) represent a land owner in the negotiation of a $200 million joint venture for a master-planned, single-family home development, and 11) lender representation in loan portfolio and real estate-owned (REO) sales.
Mr. Amuial also acts as outside general counsel to several commercial developers and family offices, assisting them with all legal matters related to their real estate business. Furthermore, he works closely with the firm's Private Wealth Services practice group and regularly advises high-net-worth individuals and family offices in connection with their acquisition and disposition of luxury residential properties throughout Florida.
Complementing his practice, Mr. Amuial is ingrained in the legal innovation and technology space and is intimately involved in the firm's efforts to identify, develop and implement cutting-edge technologies into both the firm's operations as well as the practice of law. He has integrated this knowledge and experience into his practice, and regularly assists clients in connection with the adoption software-driven processes and solutions that help streamline, organize and improve their compliance. Representative initiatives include: 1) the development of a document automation suite for a shopping mall owner to effortlessly generate new leases, event space licenses and vendor contracts, 2) creation of loan documentation automation solutions for a regional bank, and 3) the implementation of lease abstraction software solutions in connection with real property portfolio acquisitions.
Mr. Amuial has repeatedly been recognized by leading industry publications such as The Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers and Daily Business Review (including earning the distinctions of "Top Dealmaker of the Year Award" for Mixed Use in 2016 and "Innovator" in 2022) for his work managing complex, multifaceted real estate transactions.
