Overview

Kevin Angle is a data strategy and privacy attorney in Holland & Knight's Boston office. Mr. Angle represents a broad range of companies on privacy and cybersecurity matters.

Mr. Angle guides clients through the existing patchwork of U.S. federal and state laws, as well as the European Union's (EU) comprehensive General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other international privacy and cybersecurity laws. He also advises clients on privacy and cybersecurity matters arising in complex corporate transactions, helping clients to realize the value of data and protecting it post-close. In addition, Mr. Angle assists clients in responding to data security incidents ranging from ransomware to payment card theft in the United States and multijurisdictional settings.

Mr. Angle also assists companies with the creation and implementation of comprehensive privacy and cybersecurity compliance programs while navigating the complex obligations and requirements of the GDPR, California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), Connecticut Data Privacy Act (CTDPA) and other comprehensive U.S. state privacy laws. He regularly assists clients in complying with electronic and communications privacy laws such as rules and regulations governing advertising technology (AdTech), the Electronic Communication Privacy Act (ECPA), Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing (CAN-SPAM) Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), Telemarketing Sales Rule and Florida Telephone Solicitation Act (FTSA), among others.

Mr. Angle is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) and leverages his prior experience in litigation to provide clients with risk-conscious advice. He helps clients to anticipate and address potential areas of legal exposure and to structure breach responses and privacy programs to minimize potential liability.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Angle was an attorney at a global law firm in its Boston office. Previously, he served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Carol B. Amon of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. While in law school, Mr. Angle was a senior editor of the Columbia Law Review.

  • Advised a consortium of retirement plan recordkeepers in developing a data-sharing, auto-portability framework
  • Assist asset management clients in complying with financial privacy laws and regulations, including the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and its implementing regulations, security safeguards rules and identity theft red flag rules
  • Advise companies on Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), Federal Trade Commission Act (FTC Act), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing (CAN-SPAM) Act, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), state data breach notification and security laws, along with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS)

  • Represented a private equity firm in its equity investment in a leading independent provider of analytics-driven digital marketing in the healthcare sector, along with follow-on acquisitions by three companies
  • Represented a private equity firm in its acquisition of a healthcare data enablement provider
  • Led privacy diligence in a private equity firm's $2.2 billion acquisition of a healthcare provider's claims-editing software  
  • Represented a private equity firm in its simultaneous carve-out of an American multinational telecommunications holding company's U.S. video business and $1.8 billion investment in carved-out business
  • Represented a leading early childhood education provider in a $420 million whole-business securitization bond offering backed by the school's brand assets, including data

  • Represented a Fortune 500 engineering company in responding to a ransomware attack
  • Represented a medical device maker regarding data theft and related U.S. and European regulatory inquiries
  • Represented a Fortune 100 insurance company in responding to a multistate attorney general investigation stemming from a criminal cyberattack
  • Represented a multinational home improvement retail corporation in the aftermath of a well-publicized payment card breach
  • Represented an American wholesaler and retailer of grocery products regarding theft of payment card information and related regulatory inquiries
