Overview

Nathaniel Bernstein is an attorney in Holland & Knight's San Francisco office and a member of the firm's West Coast Land Use and Environmental Group. Mr. Bernstein focuses his practice on land use, environmental and energy law, and real estate.

Mr. Bernstein concentrates on due diligence, permitting and entitlements, and litigation for project proponents, including under the Housing Accountability Act (HAA), State Density Bonus Law (SDBL), Housing Crisis Act (SB 330), SB 35, AB 2162, Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) law, Builder's Remedy and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). He is also experienced with development impact fees, development agreements and specific plans, as well as matters arising under the Housing Element Law, Planning and Zoning Law, Mitigation Fee Act, Subdivision Map Act and Surplus Land Act.

While in law school, Mr. Bernstein served as editor-in-chief of the Stanford Environmental Law Journal. He worked as a legal intern at the California Attorney General's Office in the Land Law and Environment Sections and at the San Francisco City Attorney's Office with the Land Use Team. He also served as a legal extern for the Honorable Charles R. Breyer of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
