Overview
Meg Raker Brown is a real estate attorney in Holland & Knight's Washington, D.C., office, where her practice is focused on complex commercial real estate transactions.
Ms. Brown represents local and national clients – including developers, owners and operators, real estate funds, investors in both the equity and sponsor role, property managers, real estate investment trusts (REITs) and lenders – as she guides them through all stages of a real estate deal from acquisition, financing, leasing and asset management, through disposition. She has extensive experience handling matters in a wide range of asset types, from multifamily, retail centers, hotels, senior living, office and large mixed-use developments.
Ms. Brown also has significant experience in negotiating and drafting commercial leases, as she represents owners and developers of retail and mixed-use buildings, shopping centers, new retail developments, and office and industrial properties nationwide. In addition, Ms. Brown represents clients in commercial finance involving acquisition, construction, permanent loans and refinancing.
Representative Experience
- Representing a real estate fund in the financing, joint venture structure and acquisition of various types of properties across the United States, including multifamily developments, shopping centers, senior living facilities, hotels and office development
- Representing a foreign fund in connection with its acquisitions, dispositions, financing, leasing and asset management of retail and industrial properties nationwide
- Represented the owner of a multi-jurisdictional industrial property portfolio in connection with a refinancing valued at more than $45 million
- Represented a developer in the acquisition of a site for development of multifamily apartments as part of a mixed-use development in Charlottesville, Virginia
- Representing an owner and operator of a mixed-use portfolio in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, consisting of hotels, multifamily, retail and vacant land; representation included the acquisition, joint venture, financing and recapitalization of the properties
- Representing a developer in the retail leasing of a mixed-use residential and retail development in Chevy Chase, Maryland, including approximately 100,000 square feet of retail and leases with Amazon Fresh, CVS, Truist and various boutique retail tenants
- Representing the retail owner in the leasing of the retail portion of a 1.2-million-square-foot mixed-use retail, residential and office center in Leesburg, Virginia
- Represented an owner in leasing a newly developed trophy-class office building, with leases ranging from 5,000 square feet to multi-floor with more than 40,000 square feet
- Represented an administrative agent in a secured credit facility that included both acquisition and refinancing in a transaction involving more than 100 gas station and convenience store properties
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Ms. Brown worked for a full-service law firm, where she focused on real estate transactions, bankruptcy, creditors' rights and real estate-related litigation.
