Overview
Kenneth "Ken" Chang is an intellectual property (IP) attorney in Holland & Knight's Denver office. Mr. Chang is an experienced IP dealmaker, negotiator and problem solver who concentrates on overseas IP issues, with a focus on Asia. His counsel addresses areas such as cross-border transactions, IP licensing and disputes, monetization and overseas IP enforcement (particularly in China).
Mr. Chang's involvement with negotiations and patent disputes extends over a wide range of industries, including biotech, pharmaceutical and medical device, semiconductor, consumer electronics, textiles and design services. Mr. Chang regularly appears in U.S. District Courts and other venues to address IP disputes in the United States.
International IP deals are complex and often difficult, especially in China. Clients rely on Mr. Chang for his experienced, flexible and business-oriented approach to overseas negotiations and disputes. His 20 years of experience dealing with IP in the Asia-Pacific region, positions him to provide insightful, practical and bespoke advice to clients.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Chang as an IP attorney for a national law firm in its Denver office. Mr. Chang also previously served as the founder and managing partner of the Shanghai office of an international law firm. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Chang was a research scientist at the University of Texas Health Science Center, developing transgenic models, and conducting research in cardiovascular shock and cellular mechanisms of vascular dilation/constriction. Mr. Chang also worked in conjunction with the U.S. Air Force examining the physiological effects of radiofrequency radiation and other environmental conditions.

- Drafting and negotiating cross-border intellectual property (IP) transactions totaling more than $3 billion, including supply and distribution, research/development, original equipment manufacturer/contract manufacturer (OEM/CM) and IP licensing agreement
- Enforcing and defending IP, both in court and foreign administrative agencies such as customs and national IP administrations, as well as U.S. courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC), helping clients navigate the challenging waters of overseas IP enforcement
- IP counseling for clients seeking to protect their intellectual property in Asia, understanding the treatment of IP in various Asian jurisdictions and creatively increasing value of IP portfolios
