Overview

Tyree Collier is a private wealth services attorney in Holland & Knight's Dallas office. Mr. Collier focuses his practice on the formation and representation of nonprofit organizations and estate and gift planning.

Mr. Collier advises and represents large and small foundations, educational organizations, healthcare organizations, religious organizations, fundraising organizations and other types of nonprofit organizations. He advises on a variety of issues, including formation, governance, general business and liability concerns, obtaining and maintaining federal and state tax exemptions, trust law requirements, fundraising questions, Internal Revenue Service audits and rulings and Attorney General matters, including charity obligations and fiduciary duties.

In addition, Mr. Collier counsels clients on estate planning and gift planning matters. He is also a certified public accountant in Texas.

Representative Experience

  • Advised large family foundations regarding highly complex federal tax requirements with respect to investments and closely held businesses, and represented family foundations in transactions involving such matters
  • Represented family foundations in obtaining private letter rulings from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regarding complex federal tax requirements
  • Represented private foundations and public charities in examinations by the IRS
  • Represented foundations in making large grants involving significant naming rights and other complex grant requirements
  • Represented and advised numerous nonprofit organizations with respect to corporate governance issues, such as interpretation, drafting and amendment of charter and bylaw provisions, and drafting and amendment of governance policies
  • Represented and advised families regarding a variety of estate planning techniques, such as grantor trust matters, intrafamily loans and the use of family limited partnerships
