Overview

Carrol P. Hand is a maritime and international trade attorney in Holland & Knight's Richmond and Washington, D.C., offices. Ms. Hand focuses her practice on a wide range of international and domestic maritime issues, including transactional, litigation and regulatory compliance matters, with a particular focus on matters involving the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC). She also has in-depth knowledge of a variety of maritime law, transportation law, corporate law, contract law, bankruptcy law and collections issues.

Ms. Hand drafts, reviews and negotiates a wide variety of customer and vendor contracts related to logistics services, including, but not limited to, contracts for ocean transportation, origin management, intermodal transportation, warehousing and real estate. She has experience monitoring regulatory developments throughout the maritime industry, including detention and demurrage and environmental policies, and provides guidance for regulatory, compliance and any other issues that may arise across all lines of business.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Ms. Hand was an in-house attorney for a global logistics service provider, where she was responsible for providing legal support to the North American commercial and operational teams. Previously, she served as in-house counsel for a Singapore-based global container shipping company, as well as a privately held maritime and corporate registry service provider. She also served as counsel to one of the commissioners of the FMC.

While in law school, Ms. Hand served as alumni relations chair and managing editor for the Tulane Maritime Law Journal.
