Jose Manuel Marquez

Jose Manuel Marquez Santillan is a labor law attorney in Holland & Knight's Monterrey office. Mr. Marquez focuses his practice on litigation and arbitration in labor law, performing defense strategies for employers in lawsuits brought by workers, answering labor claims, rendering evidence and conducting trial hearings. Mr. Marquez has extensive experience in interrogation of witnesses and absolvents, as well as amparo proceedings in labor law matters.

Mr. Marquez has more than 10 years of experience defending employers before local and federal labor courts. Companies that Mr. Marquez has represented before the labor authorities include a multinational retail corporation, mining facility and a global logistics company, among others.

In addition, Mr. Marquez has advised employers in matters of labor inspections carried out by the Labor Inspection Authority, successfully fulfilling the requirements made by the authority. Mr. Marquez has significant experience in negotiating the termination of labor relations before the Labor Conciliation Center and preparing labor termination agreements. He advises companies in the planning and execution of massive employee dismissals, as well as the planning and execution of justified dismissals without liability for the employer, helping them to design the strategy, and preparing and collecting the necessary documents that will serve as evidence in case of litigation.

Prior to entering the private sector, Mr. Marquez completed a one-year internship at the Office of the Defense of Labor Public Defender Authority, a public defense authority provided by the government exclusively for employees, where he advised workers in matters of profit sharing (PTU) and unjustified dismissals.

After his internship, Mr. Marquez worked for more than 10 years at a well-known Monterrey labor law firm, focusing solely on advising and defending employers before all the different local and federal labor authorities.
