Overview

Aaron R. O'Donnell is a real estate attorney in Holland & Knight's Chicago office. Mr. O'Donnell represents institutional, private equity, developer and corporate clients in all facets of real estate ownership.

Mr. O'Donnell counsels clients through the acquisition, disposition, joint venture structuring, financing, development and leasing of various property types, including student housing, multifamily residential, healthcare, industrial, office, retail, hospitality and other niche property classes located throughout the United States.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. O'Donnell was an attorney at an international law firm in its Chicago office.

Representative Experience

  • Represented one of the country's largest private owners of medical office buildings in connection with the acquisition (including various large portfolios) of approximately 150 separate healthcare facilities throughout the United States
  • Represented a New York-based developer in connection with the acquisition, construction-financing, development, leasing and disposition of four buildings in Columbus, Ohio, comprising more than 1 million rentable square feet
  • Represented a leading New York-based real estate private equity firm in the acquisition and financing of three corporate campuses in Scottsdale and Tempe, Arizona
  • Represented a Chicago-based real estate private equity investment firm in connection with various acquisitions, financings, joint ventures, developments and dispositions of approximately 50 separate self-storage facilities, student housing facilities, senior housing complexes and marinas throughout the United States
  • Represented a Chicago-based real estate investor in the acquisition of hotels in San Francisco, Portland and Baltimore
  • Represented a Chicago developer in connection with the construction-financing for a luxury apartment tower on Lake Shore Drive
  • Represented a Chicago-based real estate investment company in the acquisition of multiple affordable senior housing facilities in Pennsylvania, Georgia and New Jersey, which were financed using municipal bonds and tax credits
  • Represented a publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT) in the acquisition and development – and subsequent subdivision and disposition – of various neighborhood and community shopping centers
  • Represented a global real estate owner, developer and investment company in the acquisition of a portfolio of five "Class A" office properties in the Chicago Loop
  • Represented a Chicago-based private equity real estate investment firm in the acquisition and operation of land-lease communities, retail and mixed-use properties, and parking assets
  • Represented a Chicago-based global hospitality company in the disposition of approximately 20 select service hotels in various portfolio transactions
  • Represented a Chicago-based private real estate development, management and investment company in the disposition of an apartment community in Austin, Texas
  • Represented a New York-based real estate private equity firm in the sale of two large apartment buildings in Chicago
  • Represented a large energy company in the divestiture of more than 300 self-owned and self-managed service stations
  • Represented a Fortune 100 company in a $122 million construction loan for the acquisition and development of a bottling facility
  • Represented a life insurance company in a $65 million construction loan for a redevelopment of an apartment building in a Chicago suburb
  • Represented a Fortune 100 corporation in the leasing of its Chicago Loop headquarters building
  • Represented a large office owner in various tenant lease and lease amendment negotiations
  • Represented a large energy company in the real estate aspects of a $6 billion joint venture to develop a fully-integrated North American oil sands business
