Overview

Scott Ouellette is an intellectual property (IP) attorney in Holland & Knight's Boston office. A registered patent attorney, Mr. Ouellette has considerable experience in many different aspects of IP law.

Mr. Ouellette's knowledge and experience includes domestic and foreign/international patent preparation and prosecution, patent infringement analysis, patent validity analysis, freedom-to-operate analysis, patent litigation support, ex parte reexaminations and inter partes reviews, due diligence matters, licensing, trademark counseling, trade secret counseling, merger and acquisition (M&A) support, transactional matters, and IP strategy and best practices, as well as IP/patent portfolio analysis, development and management.

Mr. Ouellette handles a broad range of technical subject matters, including speech recognition and natural language understanding technologies, voice biometrics, telecommunication devices and systems, e-commerce, internet search, network devices and systems, semiconductor devices and device fabrication processes, digital and analog circuits and systems, wireless communication devices and systems, data storage systems, data encryption systems and methods, internet and software-related systems, mechanical devices, optical devices and electromechanical devices.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Ouellette served as in-house counsel for a number of high-tech and consumer product companies. His experience gained from these positions includes advising engineering and business teams on IP matters related to all aspects of product creation, from the initial pitch of an idea, during development, and through to commercialization. He worked hand-in-hand with engineering to provide guidance regarding freedom-to-operate and designing around competitor patents to avoid infringement, as well as to monitor development and ensure that all innovations entitled to patent protection were considered for filing patent applications. Mr. Ouellette has also worked cross-functionally with engineering, business, legal, and sales executives to align IP strategy with business goals and provide proactive IP guidance.
