Overview
Mark Sloan is the vice chair of Holland & Knight's Practice & Operations Committee, and previously served as the managing partner of Thompson & Knight. Mr. Sloan is a national real estate attorney with nearly 30 years of experience advising clients on various types of real estate finance transactions, real estate acquisitions, dispositions and real estate development.
Based in Holland & Knight's Dallas office, Mr. Sloan has represented lenders in virtually all types of real estate financing transactions, including construction loans, interim bridge loans, permanent loans, mezzanine loans, conduit mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) loans and revolving loan facilities, as well as preferred equity transactions. He has also represented various financial institutions in their capacity as both administrative agent and participant in connection with syndicated loan transactions.
Mr. Sloan also has extensive experience representing lenders in connection with workouts and foreclosures. He also represents several real estate companies in connection with their acquisition, development and operation of retail shopping centers, including the negotiation of joint venture agreements with preferred equity providers. Another major part of his practice focuses on multifamily development, including mixed-use "lifestyle" centers.

Representative Experience
- Represented the owners of a 1.9 million square foot shopping mall in Dallas, Texas, in connection with the $650 million conduit mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) loan to refinance $487.4 million of existing debt and return equity to a joint venture between the mall owners and the asset management division of an American multinational financial institution
- Represented the agent bank in a $250 million syndicated loan facility on a mixed-use development in Hawaii
- Represented the agent bank in a $132 million syndicated construction loan facility on a high-rise residential condominium development in Honolulu, Hawaii
- Represented the agent bank in a mixed-use development consisting of a $84.6 million syndicated construction loan facility on a high-rise residential condominium development and a $41.8 million syndicated construction loan facility on a boutique hotel in the Dallas Arts District
- Represented the agent bank in a $198.9 million syndicated construction loan facility on two office buildings for Amazon in Seattle, Washington
- Represented the agent bank in a $94 million syndicated construction loan facility on an 18-story office building in the Dallas Arts District
- Represented the agent bank in an $86 million syndicated loan facility secured by six retail shopping centers in Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama
- Represented the lender in a $69.6 million loan facility secured by 22 industrial warehouse properties in Texas, Georgia, Colorado, Utah and Florida
- Represented the lender in a $66 million loan facility secured by 26 industrial warehouse properties in Texas, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania
- Represented the agent bank in a $161 million syndicated construction loan facility on a retail shopping center in Texas, and the subsequent workout of the construction loan facility
- Represented the agent bank in a $150 million syndicated construction loan for a 22-story office building in Denver, Colorado
- Represented the agent bank in a $100 million syndicated construction loan for a 17-story office building in Dallas, Texas
- Represented a shopping center owner regarding a $500 million loan on a 1.9 million-square-foot shopping center in Dallas, Texas
- Represents multiple construction lenders in connection with their lending activities throughout the United States
- Represents mezzanine lenders in connection with interim bridge loans, subordinate credit facilities, and equity investment transactions
- Represented the owner regarding the acquisition and redevelopment of a mixed-use development known as the Dallas Design District in Dallas, Texas
