Overview

Kyle Straughan is an intellectual property (IP) attorney in Holland & Knight's Seattle office. Mr. Straughan focuses on business matters related to assisting established and emerging companies with IP, privacy, corporate governance and regulatory compliance.

Mr. Straughan has extensive experience counseling emerging companies, startups and established businesses with creating, managing and utilizing their IP portfolios, staying ahead of the curve with privacy and data security compliance and assisting with business and IP licensing transactions. He regularly assists clients with trademark disputes, including proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB).

Mr. Straughan is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Straughan worked as an attorney for a Seattle-based firm. Prior to this role, he worked in-house for a reputable regional telecommunications company.

Representative Experience

  • Successfully secured a growing portfolio of patents on hand-held medical devices for a Seattle technology startup
  • Established and maintained the patent portfolio for a regional construction company and oversaw expansion of its portfolio outside the U.S.
  • Represented a private payment processing company during the sale of substantially all of its $50 million in assets
  • Established an extensive patent portfolio on environmental remediation technologies for a Pacific Northwest regional environmental services corporation
