Autonomous Shipping Regulatory Updates on Both a Domestic and International Level

Maritime attorney Allison Skopec was invited by the World Shipping Council (WSC) to share a presentation at its Washington, D.C., headquarters on recent developments in the shipping industry. Ms. Skopec spoke about U.S. and international regulatory developments related to maritime autonomous surface ships, sustainability and safety. She discussed topics such as the degrees of autonomy, application of autonomy to cargo ships and safety in crisis situations, such as when fires occur aboard vessels. Ms. Skopec is the secretary of the U.S. Maritime Law Association's Committee on Autonomous Ships and Smart Marine Technology.
